T2 INDUSTRIAL

Case Study: Saved Honeywell’s Dynapro

Another successful specialty equipment save for T2 Industrial…

Circa 1993, The successful computer hardware and software company from Canada, Dynapro, was taking the world by storm with their top of the line industrial computer equipment and top of the line software in their Dynapro 1031 and Dynapro 1051 Controls.

Even though these 1031 and 1051 controls are still being used today in irreplaceable specialty equipment, it was what evolved from these two controls that changed everything.  There were two companies that took interest in this technology, Allen Bradley (later Rockwell Automation) for the computer and software design and MicroTouch (3M) for the touchscreen design, which is how this company was chopped up and sold.

You will see a striking resemblance of the Dynapro 1031 and 1051 in the Allen Bradley’s Panelview 1200.  The Panelview 1200 is getting more rare and rare these days, but this 1200 control was the building blocks for the entire Panelview product line which you will find at the heart of almost every major manufacturing facility in North America as the lead technology for Factory Automation for controlling the processes from making cars to making toilet paper.  To this day during to bootup process flash screen you will still see the Dynapro logo for the software design.  Of course, Allen Bradley later being bought up by Factory Automation power house Rockwell Automation.

These days, we take touchscreens technology as just another input/output device.  In the 90’s it was not like that.  Stability and accuracy was difficult and the two major players in the industrial market were Elo Touch and Microtouch.  Then, this new player Dynapro came into the scene with this super stable and simple matrix resistive touchscreen design that ended up in front of millions of CRT monitors  in industrial environments.  Microtouch ended purchasing the touchscreen part of Dynapro and continued to develop touchscreen technology in Canada.  This remaining Dynapro team were part of the pioneers who developed the projective Capacitive touch technology that you and I enjoy using on our Cell Phones.  3M ended up buying Microtouch and the technology was absorbed into this massive company.

For this story with Honeywell, well, they bought our Monitech ML104LL1031S LCD upgrade kit.  The person doing this installation had never installed anything like this before.  With the provided installation instructions, the installation took about 45 minutes and worked great right away.  There was some trouble with re-plugging in the touchscreen with a defective clip.  T2 was able to supply some quick tech advice to secure the touchscreen cable and the machine was back to being operational.
